Were you told you had to tolerate things as a test?

(i made a thread like this but it seemed to have gotten lost).

i got in some heated discussions years ago over what i would and would not tolerate from people with regard to abuse on a personal level.

we were always fed the line that we should forgive our brother, etc.

LongHairGal, I definitely got that feeling while I was associated. It also seemed that it was worse to take offense than to give it. From trivial to most egregious transgressions were fobbed off with scripture. 'love covers a multitude of sins', and 'look not to your own interest' and 'not keeping account of injury'. In fact, in their warped logic, the one transgressed against was actually made out to be the one stumbling some 'honest hearted' one.

Almost any dealing I had with my husband's family turned into this type of game. Unfourtunatly, I am very forgiving and generous, and set myself up to be taken advantage time and again.

i agree that we all sometimes do things to offend somebody but what i noticed was that some there would arrogantly assume you were there to take their guff and they behaved accordingly - like they were getting their rocks off playing out some dominant role at somebody else's expense!

i felt that if anybody had the audacity to think they were there to "test" me i would make all the trouble for them they could possibly want!

South Carolina? Bonnaroo, Tennessee, DMB, Anyone?

i'm from atlanta, ga.. and currently live in south carolina... .

i'll be going to the "bonnarroo" music festival this june 9, 10, 11th etc, in manchester tennessee, and was wondering if by coincedence anyone else might be as well?

i am an ex jw, and am going with my husband.. we are both in our 30's.. and i just thought it would be cool to meet some of you guys.. .

You lucky dog!! I wish I was going this year, but have to content myself with 10,000 Lakes fest. I went in 2003, and it was a great time. Cause you are going in the south way off I-24, you will be in the zone for the best camp sites. I was right beside the pasture the state patrol kept their horses. What an awsome spot. (my buds took the northway, and camped in the swamp).

Dubs abusing people

i am so pissed right now.

i will try and make this as easy to understand as possible.

my wife has 2 kids that are not biologically mine that her mother has taken custody of until we are ready to take them back.

Gringojj, please don't let Country Girl's harsh words discorage you. I know what it is like to have someone give you their word, and then back out.

Country Girl, There are circumstances that we don't know about that have made Gringojj and his wife place their children with the MIL. Maybe one or both were badly injured in a car accident. Maybe one of them contracted an illness such as Guillian Barre. Maybe one of them is recovering from life threatening toxic shock. The point is, we don't know, and it is not our place to judge. What does seem to be a fact is MIL committed herself to the care of the children. Yeah, she has raised her brood, but if she said yes, to caring for the children, that is a committment. We are not party to the circumstances, and it is really not our place to judge.

What's the most thought-provoking novel you've ever read?

i'd have to say for me that it was ayn rand's the fountainhead.

even though i don't agree with a lot of her philosophy, it definitely made me stumble around in a thought-induced haze for a few weeks after reading it.

Sally, I am just past where Grampa dies. This is one of the best darn reads I have had in a while. I have not seen the movie, but I did see the last 5 minutes of it on a documentary. I also have a strange habit of reading the last few pages of a book, so I know what is comming.

This book has played a part in my life, because my mom always spoke of things that were less than orderly, clean, new or otherwise up to her exacting standards as being "grapes of wrath". She grew up during the depression, and it had been fabled throughout my childhood. What poor Mom fails to see is even though these people live catch as catch can, they still have their humanity. As do I.

I can understand Jim Casey not wanting anything to do with religion, too. Great read.

My current read ~ Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath. I can't help but feel the timliness of his thoughts on those who hate change and fear revoloution. The idea of keeping men appart from each other by making them fear and hate each other. I haven't finished the book yet, but so far, it is a great read. I never appreciated Steinbeck's stories or his use of language when I was in school.

very interesting, Rebel8. It sounds like the publishing/real estate/convention company may have just opened a truck lease purchase company. It also looks like they may be trying to play it from both sides, a tax exempt entity vs federal compliance. I am enjoying this!

i was listening to zep's dazed and confused today and the rocking middle section of that song never ceases to amaze me - john bonham was from a different planet, was completely insane, or both.

nothing i've ever heard in any other song quite compares to that.. honorable mentions:.

neil peart on the songs tom sawyer and subdivisions.

my wife just hired a new housekeeper yesterday.. she found her name in the local papers and decided to give her a call.

after checking her references my wife agreed to let her come to the house yesterday to clean on a trail basis.. over the phone she used the phrase "critical times".

this imediately set off alarms in my wife's head that this woman could be a dub.
